Lars Ulrich (born December 26, 1963) is a Danish musician and one of the founding members of the American heavy metal band Metallica.
Born in Gentofte, Denmark, Ulrich's father was a professional tennis player. Lars initially pursued tennis as well, but his passion shifted to music after witnessing Deep Purple perform live at age nine.
In 1981, Ulrich placed an advertisement in a Los Angeles newspaper looking for musicians to form a band. This led to his meeting James Hetfield, and together they formed Metallica.
As the drummer for Metallica, Ulrich has been a central figure in the band's success, contributing to their songwriting and business decisions. Metallica has become one of the best-selling music acts of all time.
Beyond Metallica, Ulrich has been involved in various music-related projects. He is known for his outspoken personality and advocacy for artists' rights.
